The National Scenic Rock River is a gentle river that's great for beginners and experienced paddlers! The Rock River winds through bluffs and pine stands and gives abundant opportunities to see wildlife, including -- you guessed it -- the mighty white pelican! This stretch of the Rock River is known to be one of the most beautiful. Our service is the best in the business! A river trip is possible for any age or experience level.  We love to take care of all of our customers and help them have a wonderful, carefree experience. It is our mission to help you have a great trip and to help you enjoy all that the Rock River Valley has to offer. If you want ideas of what else to do besides a river trip in the area, ask away! Our 17' canoes can fit 2 adults and 2 small childeren or 2-3 adults. The weight limit is 750lb. Canoes are available for all trips.
Our kayaks have large openings, so it is easy to get in and out of the kayak. Many people have tried kayaking for the first time with us!
Two person kayaks are a fun way to share a kayaking adventure with a friend or loved one.

For an adventure, try a SUP on the Rock River! It is best to try a SUP on a day that has low wind. We've had lots of people try it for the first time with us!
Our single tubes have a head rest and a closed bottom, so sit back, relax, and float the day away!
Two person tubes are a fun way to share a float with a friend or loved one!

LIFE JACKETS - FREE
Inflatable Coolers are available for rent. They attach to your tube so that you can bring along food and drinks on your trip.
Seat backs are available for rent to provide support to your back on canoe trips. These attach to the canoe bench or can be placed on the canoe floor.
Our lifejackets come free with every trip! We have infant-XXXL jackets to help anyone who is on the river to have a safe trip!

RESERVATIONS/BOOKING

REQUEST A TRIP
RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED! It is best to reserve in advance to secure your trip. You may call the same day that you would like to float, but we cannot guarantee availablity since some of our dates sell out.
Reserving is easy! Just follow the steps below!

Once you have your trip figured out , it's time to plan your trip time.  
Typically, our vans pick up customers on the hour, with our last pickup time being 4pm for boats and 5pm for tubes. Please plan your takeoff time accordingly.  We start trips at 9am. Please let us know what hour you and/or your group will be in.
The following times are generally our last launch times:
1-2 hour boat trips: On river by 2pm
3-4 hour boat trip: On river by 12pm
Tube trips: on river by 1pm

Sometimes for large groups, we will operate outside of our normal hours. If you have a group that needs different accomodations, please call ahead and check with our availability.


Please be aware that a new Illinois State Law has created a minor change in the registration process. In order to make your trip a safe and fun experience, whoever will be operating the boats with paddles will be required to watch a short video. The video will also be available at White Pelican for viewing. You can follow the link to the video below.

REQUEST A TRIP HERE

on the day of your trip

On the day of your trip: In order to have the best trip possible, please follow these simple steps to make sure you are prepared for the day.

Gather all the items you will need for the day. We suggest the following items:​​

  • ​suncreen
  • drybag for valuable items
  • different layers of clothes for 
  • weather changes
  • river shoes or old pair of sneakers
  • sunglasses/sunhats
  • food/drink
  • swimming suit if you plan on getting in the water
  • fishing gear if you plan on fishing
  • Camping gear if you plan on camping
  • Check the weather. White Pelican will notify customers if weather is too dangerous for paddling.




Meet us at at the launch point at an agreed upon time, and we will check you in and get you ready for your trip. After your trip is over, we will pick you up at the end point  (Castle Rock, Grand Detour, or Lowell State Park) and bring you back to the start at a set time.
Register at the White Pelican Launch Site. Please provide:

  • signatures for anyone over 18 and guardian signatures for anyone under 18
  • sign that you have watched the safety video
  • choose your lifejacket size and paddles
  • enjoy a great day on the river!
SHUTTLE FROM YOUR CAMPGROUND OR HOTEL
We will pick you up from your campground, hotel, or b & b, take you to the White Pelican launch site and pick you up at an agreed upon time from your trip's end point! Your whole group will be picked up together, so please plan on one pickup time. All shuttles need to be coordinated with your river reservation, and there is an extra fee for this service. Payment is due before your trip. Shuttle capacity is 14 people.
