LOWDEN STATE PARK
Lowden State Park is a unique park located in Oregon, IL and has 4 miles of hiking trails. In the late 1800's, Lowden State Park was the home of the Eagles Nest Art Colony, where a group of well-known artists from the University of Chicago and the area worked on their peices. One of the artworks that is available for viewing is the Eternal Indian, built in 1908 by Loredo Taft. The sculpture is on a 90 ft. bluff overlooking the river, and stands about 50 ft. tall. One hike takes visitors to Ganymede's Spring, the spring that was used by the art colony for drinking, cooking, and even their swimming pools. The spring originates in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin. Please see below for directions and trail maps.
